As an instructor, I just gotta get in and see how the lab report works from a student perspective. I'm used to other LMSs providing a student view, so it seems weird that your LMS does not do this.
[Essentially - every time I (Jamie) give a training people are wanting student views or student accounts because they want to get a good idea of what it is like to be a student doing a lab report (or taking a quiz). We end up having to do all sorts of communication to deliver a student account using a prof's personal email, which drags down faculty success.
So we either need a simple"View Course as Student" button or if we are going to keep things as one view, have to do a good bit of work to make the instructor view a lot more like the student one.
For quiz, this is less of an issue since the attempts tab is the student view.
For lab reports, our PREVIEW tab seems to want to do the same as attempts for quiz... show it as a student sees is. But we confused the purpose of this page with all the grading and feedback grey boxes.
It would be much better if the preview simply showed the report exactly as a student would see it, and let instructors put in data and complete the report ("take it as a student").
Maybe have a toggle switch that they can hit to show the grey boxes, or make that another tab.
For the course page, overrides and dates are super confusing. If I get a course delivered, and overrides are enabled, it looks like the quizzes have due dates but the lab reports don't. "Overrides enabled" doesn't really mean anything to me - I have no idea what this is. Since I can't "view as student" the entire product, I worry that students don't see dates and that something is amiss.
So one solution would be to put the open and close dates on the tile, but where a time and date is put the first section's time and date with an asterisk, and have the asterisk on the "Overrides Enabled" pill.
Report forces me to go through the whole thing and put in data .. but I still can see what grading looked like. Not the same
Or just allow us to add a "dummy student". Then we can log in that way. (Chem 101 actually did that for me in the spring - I created a dummy student and could log in with that info and see what they see).
Hello, Jamie,
Thank you for doing that. It will be very helpful. I am always reassured when I can test what it will look like to the student.
Sincerely,
Mary Jo
The Product team has resolved this issue, and has added a REPORT tab so faculty can view and do the lab report as a student (mulitple times if desired). I do like this approach way better than having to press a "View as Student" for the entire course and have to switch back and forth.
